Anxiety Counseling

You have heard them before. The whispers of anxious thoughts...

You find yourself worrying all the time about one thing or another constantly. You feel that others talk negatively about you. You often find yourself living in the past or grabbing for the future. You might even find yourself missing out on your present moment.

Anxiety is a tiring problem to live with, especially since it can make you feel like you have little to no control over your life.

anxiety
We all have stressful situations involving children, work, finances, health etc. in our daily lives that we want to “brush under the rug” or deal with later”. We also however, have a limit on how often we can do this.

There is always that one incident that pushes us over the edge and makes us feel out of control. This is when anxiety is at its peak – often times robbing us of our productivity, peace of mind, and self-control.

Sadly, we often find ourselves getting used to this unhealthy pattern of  chaos.

Dealing with anxiety or being a “worrywart” can lead to problems with sleep and appetite, trouble concentrating, restlessness, and irritability.

Many of us also experience panic attacks when we are anxious.

In our bodies, anxiety can look like:

01

A fast heartbeat

Your heart may race or pound, even when there’s no physical danger.

02

Chest pain or tightness

Anxiety can create tension or discomfort in the chest, making it feel tight or heavy.

03

Shallow breathing

You may find yourself taking quick, shallow breaths or struggling to catch your breath.

04

Sweating

Excessive sweating can occur as your body responds to stress or fear.

05

Lightheadedness

Anxiety may cause dizziness or a feeling of being unsteady or faint.

06

Nausea/vomiting

Stress can upset your stomach, leading to nausea or, in some cases, vomiting.

07

Stomach pain

Anxiety often affects digestion, causing cramps, discomfort, or stomach aches.

08

Feelings of “impending doom”

You may experience an overwhelming sense that something bad is about to happen, even without a clear reason.

Managing anxiety causing thoughts, feelings and body sensations does not need to be so difficult. We can achieve our daily tasks in a calmer, easier manner.

You CAN stop anxiety from interfering with your everyday goals.

Together we can help you take control of anxiety by:

  1. Exploring anxiety causing thoughts
  2. Learning how to be more aware of and in control of these thoughts
  3. Challenging irrational thinking patterns
  4. Learning to stay grounded in the present moment
  5. Using mindfulness to cope with anxiety
  6. Learning relaxation and self-soothing techniques
  7. Building distraction strategies
  8. Learning to cope with fear and stress causing scenarios

I would love to build a personalized plan for you to manage your anxiety and worrying. My goal is to give you the set of tools to be able to conquer your anxiety, worry and fear so that you can be able to make the most of your present life.

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) methods to help my patients explore and decrease their anxiety. For anxiety that is rooted in trauma, Eye Movement De-sensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) trauma therapy can be helpful to explore, address and change the root of anxiety.
